Rosebur's Better Locomotion Layer

A minimalist base layer replacement for VRChat avatars, designed to slightly improve the experience of using FBT.

  • When in FBT, locomotion animations will be disabled when you sit or lay down. This is detected via the “Upright” parameter, which changes based on the distance between your headset and the floor.
  • Adds a menu toggle to disable FBT locomotion animations entirely. Useful for situations that disjoint height detection, such as laying down then offsetting your playspace upwards.
  • Simplified jump controller. Long-fall animation is omitted, and landing while running smoothly eases into the run animation instead of into the idle state.

This prefab is meant to be installed with VRCFury, but can be installed manually if you know how to work with animators and such. It also probably works on quest? I haven't tested but it totally should. Lemme know if it turns your avatar into a pretzel.

Credits:

  • Resonite, which disables its leg IK movements in a similar manner and inspired me to figure out a simple VRC solution.
  • GoGo Loco, which has a similar feature built in, so I studied it until I figured out how it worked before ignoring most of that to make my own lightweight fix.
